ZowieWowie is an electronic-magazine (e-ziine) dedicated
to sharing provocative ideas and the shaping culture
through memetic transmission; paired with the aspects of
humor and paraody.
The
term "meme," derived from the Greek word mimema,
"something imitated" often refers to a piece of
information passed from one mind to another. The term
first came into popular use with the publication of the
book The Selfish Gene by Richard Dawkins in 1976, and
the conceptual framework of memes borrows from the study
of genes -- the units of biological transmission.
By analogy with genetics, a
meme passes from generation to generation via family and
cultural traditions or training rather than via sexual
reproduction, with occasional "mutations." Another
common usage of the term "meme" relates closely to
academic study of folklore and the informal
communication of cultural information, in which memes
fit into an analogy of "language as a virus".

When ZowieWowie began in 2001, the term “Virus
Philosopher” was coined to express the direction and
purpose of ZowieWowie. With the inception of
Zowiewowie.com the analogy of the virus was used to
showcase thinkers, writers, technology, and movies that
seem to work actively as a virus. The reader was
intended to decide if this type of viral influence was
good or bad.
A
Virus Philosophy is original thought or analysis that
maintains its integrity as an authentic, legitimate
representation of the creator’s purpose or unintended
purpose, even in the face of opposition of popular
thinking or recognized cultural and societal standards.
ZowieWowie’s purpose is to be an appraiser, incubator,
and presenter of original ideas and free thought. We
hold the view that Viral Thought is sometimes needed to
infiltrate mainstream consciousness and influence
adjacent thinkers. ZowieWowie strives to contribute to
the natural, evolutionary drive to operate freely,
independent of popular perception and dogma, by
providing a forum for the functional shaping and
progress of culture, sociopolitical rhetoric, and
perspective-driven challenges. The mediums that
contribute to these aims are through observing trends,
detecting strange and unusual oddities, transmitting
commentaries or literary prose, and bringing it all
together through a thought wave that summarizes a theme
or central idea from the material that is presented.
Added with these attributes, is the element of humor
and/or parody to increase the entertainment value and
appeal to a larger demographic of readers.
We
believe that "ideas" can also be expressed outside of
the academic or written medium through the mediums of
art, behavior, and even lifestyle. ZowieWowie exhibits
enthusiasm for stimulating technologies, novel ideas,
and counter culture/sub-culture activities Paramount
to our mission is the fact that every human being,
regardless of cultural or societal disposition, is
worthy of dignity as a natural variant of diversity
that may provide responsible intellectual, aesthetic,
spiritual, and emotional ideas of life as an equally
useful and fulfilling prospect.
